Many of you have been in touch to express your support for stronger protections online. There are widespread concerns about the impact of social media on safety, wellbeing, and development, as well as the ease of access to harmful content online.

I share these concerns and recognise the difficult balance between staying connected in the digital world and staying safe, particularly for children and young people.

Please take a moment to complete my survey so I can ensure your views and experiences are clearly heard and shared with colleagues in Government. I support limiting access to social media for children under sixteen, and I have long been concerned about the impact smartphones and social media have on young people during these formative years.

I want to understand what lessons can be learned from the implementation of Australia’s Under 16s Social Media Ban. I will raise this issue with Ministers and seek opportunities to intervene in this important debate.
