My Response to the Prime Minister's Statement on Gaza
I want to share with you my response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the urgent need for peace in the region and the Prime Ministers statement last week.

The scale of civilian suffering and humanitarian need in Gaza is already intolerable. Over 60,000 people have been killed, the majority of whom are women and children. This devastating situation has been exacerbated by months of blocked aid, ongoing settler violence in the West Bank, the killing of civilians waiting for aid, and the forced displacement of Palestinian refugees. It simply cannot go on.
I understand the profound concern many across the Cities of London and Westminster feel for the people of Palestine at this time. It is impossible to witness the scenes of violence and the scale of the humanitarian emergency without wanting to do everything within our power to stop it. I support the Government’s call for a ceasefire, unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, and the return of all hostages. This must lead to a two-state solution, with Palestine and Israel both recognised internationally, safe and secure.
I have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the removal of barriers to humanitarian aid to ensure that those most in need have access to food, medical equipment, and sanitation supplies. Many constituents have written to me about this matter, and I understand and share the anger and grief over the scale of devastation in Palestine. I am grateful to everyone who has reached out.

The Government’s plan for recognising Palestine is a necessary step toward achieving sustainable peace in the region. Alongside this, it is vital that there is continued international support for grassroots movements promoting peaceful cooperation between Israel and Palestine. I would like to see, as part of the pathway to recognition, Hamas immediately release the hostages, agree to a ceasefire, commit to disarmament and have no role in the future governance of Gaza.

Thank you for reading and for your deep concern about these urgent issues. As always, I am here to listen, support, and work toward a safer, fairer world. Please feel free to get in touch if you wish to discuss this or any other matter.
